Schools' Community of Practice – When gaming meets gambling

Hosted by Monash Health Health Promotion, this Schools' Health and Wellbeing Community of Practice (CoP) will focus on Gaming and Gambling and feature the Gambler's Help Community Engagement Officer at Better Health Network as a special guest presenter.Gaming has become prevalent among young people, especially with how accessible it has become over the past decade. The aim of this session is to create awareness on the close relationship between gaming and gambling by exploring the increasingly blurred boundary between gaming and gambling, helping students stay safe and healthy and enabling school teachers, staff, parents and carers to effectively talk to young people about the reality of gambling and gaming.
Key Learning Objectives:
-What is gaming, and its relationship to gambling
-Understanding the forms of gaming, gambling and facts about gambling
-Why it's hard to stop gaming - the relationship between the brain and gaming
-Positive vs problematic gaming signs and the signs of harm to look out for
-How to talk to young people about gaming and its harm
-Reducing stigma and shame associated with seeking support
-Support services and where to get help
-Q&A
The free session is open to all schools, including leadership, wellbeing coordinators and school nurses, in Cardinia Shire, City of Casey and City of Greater Dandenong.
