Melbourne has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of renowned Kathak Guru Rani Khanam. Alas, due to unforeseen circumstances, she is unable to attend — but the show must go on!In a rare and heartfelt coming together, Melbourne’s Kathak community unites for the first time on one stage. Infinity Kathak is proud to present the many dimensions of Kathak through a vibrant constellation of Melbourne’s finest Kathak dancers — both emerging and established — celebrating the resilience, depth, and collective spirit of our Kathak community.
The evening features a full-length solo presentation by Dr Helena Joshi, Director of Infinity Kathak and disciple of Guru Prerana Deshpande of Pune, performing in the rich Jaipur–Lucknow gharana tradition, marked by rhythmic precision, clarity of form, and grace.
Audiences will also witness performances by distinguished local Kathak artists, each bringing their own unique style and lineage to the stage:
- Smt Sumona Bhattacharya, Director of Ghungroo School of Dance, a torchbearer of Kathak in Melbourne
- Parul Juneja, Director of Kathak Kendra Nrityashala, Auckland
- Dr Shinjita Roy, trained in the Lucknow Gharana and Sufi Kathak
- Sharvari Bhide Limaya, Co-founder of The Cultural Mosaic
A special highlight of the evening is a presentation by Team Nazakat — senior Kathak dancers from Melbourne — who will perform a choreography by Guru Rani Khanam in homage to the original vision of the event.

The repertoire for the evening spans the breadth of Shuddh Kathak, showcasing Nritya, Nritta and Abhinaya.
This is not just a concert, but a tribute — to the resilience and spirit of the Kathak community in Melbourne, and our devotion to the art form.
