How to Make Drugs: new models of humane research
About
Animal research in SA is shrouded in secrecy. We don't even know how many animals are experimented on, let alone what species or what is done to them. But things can change. Come and find out how.
The film "How to Make Drugs" has scientists explaining the limitations of animal models in medical research. It does not include distressing footage.
After a buffet lunch we have 3 speakers.
* Researcher from SAHMRI who uses organoids produced from human tissue to investigate neurological problems.
* Our own Emma Hurst MP from NSW, who has been bestowed the Lush Political Achievement Award for her work to help laboratory animals. She will describe her achievements and make it clear why we need an AJP MP in SA.
*Animal-free Science Advocacy will explain what's wrong with the current Code of Practice, and what we need to change when the Code comes up for review later this year to better protect laboratory animals.
