What is gender? And how is it different from sex? Is it a natural category or a social category? Or is it both? Or is it, first and foremost, psychological – a matter of self-perception or self-identification? If so, is it fluid or fixed, mutable or immutable? Moreover, do gender roles arise naturally from our biology or are they culturally constructed? And what do we make of gender stereotypes? Are they helpful, unhelpful, avoidable, unavoidable? These are just some of the questions that are being asked both inside and outside the church.
Join us on September 9, 2026 (7pm-9pm), as Rob Smith seeks to walk and talk us through the contemporary gender maze, shining the light of Scripture on the path that leads to clarity and, more importantly, to freedom, harmony, and beauty.
ABOUT ROB SMITH
The Rev Dr Robert Smith is an Anglican Minister who for the last 24 years taught theology and ethics at Sydney Missionary & Bible College. He is the author or co-author of several books, most recently, The Body God Gives: A Biblical Response to Transgender Theory (2025). Rob is married to Claire, and they have an adult son currently living in London.
