Read Girl in a Green Gown: The History and Mystery of the Arnolfini Painting by Carola Hicks (2011 Vintage) before taking a closer look at the masterpiece that is the Arnolfini portrait painted by Jan van Eyck in 1434. Carola Hicks tells the story of the painting's provenance; its survival over the centuries and its appeal to contemporary audiences.
