About
Cultural competence is a step beyond cultural awareness, and this course will help participants not just familiarise themselves with aspects of Aboriginal culture but also explore ways to make our organisations and communication more welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe for Aboriginal people.Led by an experienced Aboriginal trainer, this one-day course will develop awareness and sensitivity, while providing practical skills and actionable real-world ways to improve how we engage with Aboriginal people and their communities.

THE TRAINER
Bethany Walding is a passionate Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Trainer and Facilitator with roots from Yamatji Country, who has lived on Noongar Boodja in Boorloo (Perth) her whole life. With more than a decade of experience working across Aboriginal spaces, Bethany brings a powerful combination of lived experience, academic insight, and cultural integrity to everything she delivers.
Bethany holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and experience at academia for Applied Social Science and Indigenous Social Policy. She integrates emotional intelligence, deep listening, and interpersonal communication into all her work, creating safe and inclusive spaces.
In addition to her facilitation work Bethany is Project Manager of the Yamatji Stories Project, an initiative focusing on Yamatji local histories, yarning and community education and development. Guided by the symbolism of saltwater meeting freshwater, Bethany honours the blending of knowledge systems and experiences - where old meets new, and healing meets truth.
