The Golden Mile
About
The Golden Mile event will be a highlight of the history festival. It’s a 25 minute film screening followed by a Q&A with the film maker about the greatest partnership in Australian sporting history: between visionary coach Percy Cerutty and unbeatable miler and 1500m champion Herb Elliott. Elliott now 88 gave film maker, Ian Henschke access to his father’s archival film from the 1950s and insists this is his last interview. It’s a wonderful insight into a man who never lost a race over the mile or 1500m and set world records in both. The Commonwealth Games this year will feature the mile as the final event. This film also features 2024 Commonwealth champion Ollie Hoare and dual Olympic gold medalist and Head of World Athletics Lord Sebastian Coe. It’s an extraordinary film that has been screened at film festivals around the world and last year won the SA Media Award for Best Sports Report. Catch one of the screenings and meet the film maker on May 5th and 6th at Merino Community Centre. (1.30-2.30pm)Dates
