The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) Introductory Course is designed to equip nursing staff with the foundations of knowledge and skills in the initial management of the elective post-operative cardiothoracic surgical patient.
The program incorporates interactive discussions, workshops and simulation to explore the practical sklls required for the care of the elective cardiothoracic surgical patient in the initial postoperative period.
CTICU Introductory Course also enables participants to explore and practice teamwork skills and behaviours vital for effective team performance such as leadership, followership, effective communication and shared situational awareness in cardiothoracic patient deterioration.

Who can attend?
The course is designed for the following groups:
Critical Care Nurses: : ICU nurses who are currently caring for the postoperative cardiothoracic patient or critical care nurses working towards the care of the cardiothoracic patient in ICU. Nurses that have or are nearing completion of an ICU Transition to Speciality Practice (TSP) program are also encouraged to apply
Prerequisites: Participants need to be ALS competent and have completed the course pre-reading material
