Public Presentation – new work development by Ruth O’Leary
The culmination of a two-week residency established by La Trobe Art Institute and Punctum for regional artists to support artistic exploration across live arts and visual arts. This is part of Punctum’s PROTOgather series where we gather to meet with, celebrate and share our love of adventurous regional artists and their work.
For over a decade Ruth O'Leary has maintained a rigorous practice of maternal self-documentation while addressing art history’s systematic erasure of motherhood as lived experience. Her practice spans Australia and Internationally. Ruth's work was recently acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria. In 2026, it will feature in MOTHER, the NGV’s landmark exhibition exploring motherhood.
This presentation is taking place on the lands of the Djaara people. We pay our deep respects to Elders past and present and their living culture.
In partnership with La Trobe Art Institute and Bendigo Venues & Events and supported by Creative Australia.
Access: The Engine Room is a heritage building. Ruth's presentation is upstairs. Unfortunately there is no lift. There is an allocated universal access parking space next to the Engine Room. Should you require assistance for the stairs, please advise us.
Cost: Entry is by donation.
