HAL (SA): 2026 John Perry AO QC Oration w. Kourakis CJ
About
On Friday, 13 February 2026, the HAL (SA Chapter) will host its annual Oration at the Supreme Court of South Australia, to be held in Courtroom 6, followed by canapés and drinks in the Court foyer 🏛️The Oration will be delivered by The Hon. Chris Kourakis AC, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
The timing of this Oration holds special significance. UNESCO will mark World Greek Language Day on 9 February 2026, recognising the Greek language as a uniquely enduring linguistic tradition and a foundational source of legal, philosophical, and scientific thought. This Oration will serve as a meaningful professional and cultural observance of that international milestone.
The Oration will explore the terms νόμος, δικαιοσύνη, and ἐπιείκεια, and how these three seminal Greek terms—nomos (law as reasoned order), dikaiosynē (justice, especially corrective justice), and epieikeia (equity as moral correction)—form the bedrock of both ancient jurisprudence and our modern legal systems.
NO COST for HAL members, and otherwise by special invitation only. 🍷🍴 Food and drinks supplied.
