Twilight Seminar Series - Justice Dina Yehia
About
The first Twilight Lecture for the year will be held on Thursday 5 March 2026 in Supreme Court 3 at 5:15 on the topic “Bugmy: continuing misconceptions”.The speaker is the Hon Justice Dina Yehia, who is visiting Canberra in March for the ANU’s Judge-In-Residence Program. Chief Justice McCallum writes: “Justice Yehia is a highly respected criminal lawyer. Her Honour appeared as senior counsel for the appellant in Bugmy v The Queen [2013] HCA 37. Appointed to the NSW District Court in 2015, her Honour played a key role in establishing the Walama circle sentencing list in that Court before being elevated to the NSW Supreme Court, where she frequently sits on the Court of Criminal Appeal. Her Honour is uniquely well-placed to speak on the vexed topic of appearing for and sentencing offenders with a background of trauma”.
Please arrive at 5.00pm to allow us to start sharp at 5.15pm.
