After our very first meet up we thought to ease in gently with a group playreading. Obviously, we need people in the room for the reading. So, this reading needs a minimum of 8 people to attend as readers for it to work.
3.00pm: Arrive + acknowledgement
3.15pm: Short body + voice warm up with Kimberley
3.30pm - 4.30pm: We read and we get to where we get to!
Ways to participate:
- As a reader
- We can swap out of reading roles as needed so everyone who wants a go has a go
- You don't HAVE to read you can come and listen (just like a real-life audiobook) however we do need people willing to read or we won't have a playreading
- We will take little breaks in between acts or as needed- Come, listen, draw or paint or knit or crochet quietly while listening
The play: A Tale of Mystery by Thomas Holcroft
Why this? It's a very old fashioned melodrama from 1802. It is dramatic but pretty light, it's got a variety of classic melodrama characters. And it is short. I expect it will take one hour to read. AND I didn't want to think too hard on this decision. I also wanted something that everyone can access for free and it is online in the link below. So, let's start here and see where we get! As the play readings progress we can have more play suggestions.

A note on the tone of this meet up...This is a low stakes event. It is chill. It is not about being a perfect actor or reader! Sometimes reading out aloud can be nerve wracking but when we sit and just read it it really starts to appear. We will keep it simple. I think I can go as far to say that we strive for this space to feel non-judgmental and explorative - a meeting of curiosities.
