The Businesswomen of Melbourne proudly celebrates International Women’s Day with this year’s theme, Balance the Scales. Together, we honour the achievements of women in business, acknowledge the challenges that still exist, and champion a future where opportunities, representation, and leadership are shared equally by all. This celebration is a reminder of our collective power to create meaningful change, support one another, and continue striving for a more balanced and inclusive world.This inspiring International Women’s Day event will shine a light on courage, resilience, and the power of women supporting women. We are honoured to welcome Nayran Tabiei as our Guest Speaker for 2026. A remarkable entrepreneur, cooking instructor, caterer, and community advocate whose journey embodies strength and hope.
Born in Damascus, Syria, Nayran was forced to rebuild her life when the civil war made home unsafe. Arriving in Australia as an asylum seeker with her husband and daughter, she faced danger, uncertainty, and the challenge of starting again with almost nothing. Yet through determination and an unwavering belief in possibility, she transformed her passion for food into a thriving business—operating in St Kilda and Camberwell—and became a respected voice in Melbourne’s multicultural community.
Nayran’s story is a powerful reminder that food connects us, heals us, and builds community. Her commitment to giving back to the country that offered her family safety continues to shape her mission. Today, she is creating a café space that not only celebrates culture and flavour, but also supports others who are making Australia their new home.
Join us as Nayran shares her inspiring journey and the lessons that have shaped her into the strong woman and leader she is today. This is a celebration of resilience, connection, and the collective power of women uplifting one another.
