Constellations Festival: Eva Hornung + Matilda Bookshop
Matilda Bookshop is proud to offer an evening with the sublimely talented Adelaide author, Eva Hornung, as part of Constellations: Not Writers' Week festival at 7pm on Wednesday March 4th, at the Coventry Library, Stirling, 63 Mount Barker Road, Stirling.
Constellations: Not Writers' Week is an umbrella festival that allows writers, bookshops, organisations and those responsible for partnership programming who were to be involved with Adelaide Writers' Week 2026 to create a space for the writing and reading community in the city of Adelaide, in the absence of much-loved Writers' Week. It does not seek to replace Adelaide Writers' Week.
Tickets are FREE, or you can choose the FREE Ticket + Signed Book option ($35), if you would like to purchase a signed copy of The Minstrels for collection at the event. The Minstrels will also be on sale on the night for $35 (rrp). If you would like to make a donation to the Constellations Festival to cover payment of authors, there is the option to do so when you book your ticket. All proceeds will go directly to Constellations for the payment of authors. This a not-for-profit event.
Please join us in hearing Eva Hornung in conversation with Molly Murn, talking about Eva's new novel, The Minstrels. This long-awaited new novel from one of our finest writers is a sweeping epic set in literal and figurative blight in a fictional Australian geography; a work of self, time and the very end of something. Gem and Will grow up on a farm above the chasm and pool known as the Minstrels, a site where both are broken, each by the other. One will disappear. One will, eventually, be transformed. Through her encounters with people and through art, land and language, Gem is remade while the world outside changes and time runs out. Wild, mythic and potent, The Minstrels is an apocalyptic redemption fable that weaves the history and probable fate of the world into the life of one woman.
Eva Hornung was born in Bendigo and now lives in rural South Australia. She is an award-winning writer of literary fiction and criticism whose novels have been shortlisted for many awards including the ALS Gold Medal, the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, the Steel Rudd Literary Award, the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the Miles Franklin Literary Award. Hornung’s highly acclaimed Dog Boy won the Prime Minister’s Literary Award in 2010; The Last Garden won the South Australian Premier’s Prize for Literature in 2018.
This promises to be a beautiful conversation between two writers about sites of wild transformation, women remaking themselves, the craft of writing, living history, and much, much more.
Your support of authors who were set to be appearing at the now cancelled Adelaide Writers' Week 2026, as part of Constellations, helps to celebrate writers and reading, and is much appreciated. This is a not-for-profit event with all donations going towards the payment of authors who have lost income due to the cancellation of AWW2026. We will be selling wine by the glass on the night, donated by our friends at S.C.Pannell, with any money raised being donated to Constellations.
