2026 Koryu Uchinadi Australasian Gasshuku
About
The 2026 Koryu Uchinadi Australian Training Weekend will once again be hosted at Toowoomba Koryukan Karate, located at 42 Clifford Street, Toowoomba, Queensland. This annual event has consistently delivered high-level instruction that deepens understanding of karate as a functional and living discipline as it was originally intended by its early founders. You will leave this event with a clearer understanding of the structure and nature of karate, as well as a better sense of how your regular training can be applied in a more practical context.
Attendees will receive expert coaching from Australia’s leading Koryu Uchinadi instructors, alongside the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and forge new training relationships within a serious, ego-free environment.
Open Invitation — Beyond Style & Politics:
While this event is open to all of our Koryu Uchinadi and IRKRS members, it is also deliberately open to karate practitioners of all styles who might be curious about the lesser-known but highly practical expression of karate—one that was developed in early Okinawan history and yet is often absent from modern or purely aesthetic interpretations.
This weekend is suitable for all levels, from novice to advanced. A key takeaway for any first-time attendees considering coming along is that nothing learned here requires you to change anything about your base style. The principles, drills, and methods presented integrate cleanly into any traditional karate framework without interfering with or altering the outward appearance or identity of your style. At worst, you may plesently discover that techniques and drills that you have practiced for years suddenly begin to make practical sense leading to deeper understanding, renewed motivation, and purposeful training. "Once you see it, You can't unsee it"
Why Attend?
• Practical, principle-based karate is finding its place in the 21st century
