The BoƮte presents The 2nd Festival of Georgian Songs
The Boite will welcome Georgian academic, TV presenter and singer Gia Bagashvili to Melbourne in the last week of February.
Gia together with 5 Melbourne based ensembles will share their passion for the ancient polyphonic vocal traditions of the Republic of Georgia. Featuring Melbourne Georgian Choir, Dir Krzysztof Derwinski, The Footscray Hotel Choir, Dir Lloyd O'Hanlon, Mixed Drinks, DIR Therese Virtue, Tsinskaro and Gorani. They sing songs coming out of rural traditions - harvest, planting, plowing, exquisite church music and drinking songs.
The music is powerful, the harmonies unfamiliar and the singing joyous.
We wish to acknowledge that Gia is funding his own travel costs and is charging no fees for his lectures and performances. For this we are extremely grateful.
WORKSHOP
Singers will gather for a workshop with Gia on Saturday morning, before the concert. The main focus will be on the final song in the concert involving all performers.

SUPRA
After the concert, join us for a 'supra', a traditional georgian celebratory meal, marked by toasting, singing and over-eating! The Australian version is a little more measured, but lots of fun! Join us at Gemma Simply Italian restaurant (183 Elgin St, Carlton) after the concert finishes (5pm) for a splendid celebration.
