About
The RACI crystal growing competition is for school aged youth to try their hand at growing crystals from Alum (potassium aluminium sulfate, K2(SO4)·Al2(SO4)3·24H2O).Attempts to grow crystals are done during Term 2.
The choice to buy your own alum or to have it supplied to you is an option. If you request it to be supplied, we please ask that you pick it up from CSIRO, Black Mountain from Monday 30th March - Wednesday 1st April. Contact person: Jess Bilyj jess.bilyj@csiro.au

Entries to be submitted from 22nd June to 26th June 2026
The following information may help schools to decide which tickets to purchase:
a) One entry is for one crystal whether grown by a group of students or by an individual student.
b) If you know the exact number of students/student group entries, you may purchase tickets as 10s plus the reminder as individual tickets.
c) Alum for schools is supplied as 500g tubs (1 tub $80; 2 or more $60 per tub) One tub is sufficient for 10 entries.
