Year 9 Career Taster Program – 2026 SessionsThe Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) provides students with the opportunity to explore different industries through short, hands on taster sessions delivered by local TAFEs and training providers. The program is designed to spark curiosity, broaden awareness of future career pathways, and support students in making informed subject choices for Years 10–12. Throughout the year, students will have access to a range of one day experiences, each showcasing real world skills, workplaces, and industry professionals. These sessions aim to help students discover their interests, build confidence, and connect classroom learning to practical career opportunities.- Bookings open at 5:00 pm on 30th March 2026. - Sessions are first come, first served. Spots are limited, so please book as soon as bookings open. - Students must only book one place per session each. - When booking, please state the STUDENT's name - Sessions will auto close when full. - If a session is full, email rebecca.davidse@education.wa.edu.au to request a waitlist spot. - Students must read all session descriptions before booking. Some require students to arrange their own transport. - Students must ensure bookings do not clash with assessments or school commitments. CTP does not excuse missed work. - If you can no longer attend a booked session, you must notify Rebecca Davis as soon as possible so the spot can be offered to someone else. - Students are strongly encouraged to book for themselves so they understand what they are attending. - A Compass consent event will be sent to parents for each session; attendance requires parent approval. - If you can no longer make it to your booked session, please let us know so we can fill the spot with someone from the waitlist - Students who repeatedly book and do not attend will be placed on a “no show” list and may be prevented from joining future sessions. For information about this event, please contact rebecca.davidse@education.wa.edu.au Boom Radio – Leederville TAFE Date: Thursday 30th April 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 2:00 pm Location: North Metro TAFE – Leederville Campus Capacity: 12 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: North Metro TAFE Create your own radio show in this hands-on immersive taster. Learn about producing and presenting your own radio show or podcast at our own campus radio station, BOOM Radio. You'll gain a range of skills from presenting on live radio and digital mediums, to working behind the scenes in audio production and event management. Bright Sparkies – East Perth TAFE Date: Tuesday 12th May 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm Location: North Metro TAFE – East Perth TAFE Capacity: 14 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: North Metro TAFE Students will experience what it’s like working in the electrical industry, we have wiring tasks and light boards for testing. Students will understand on completion of the task how a two-way circuit works. Horticulture Taster – Murdoch TAFE Date: Monday 18th May 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm Location: South Metro TAFE – Murdoch TAFE Capacity: 16 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: South Metro TAFE This taster experience will give students an overview of working in the horticulture and related sector. Horticultural activities will include plan identification, propogation and planting a plant to take home. Building and Construction – Rockingham TAFE Date: Tuesday 26th May 2026 Time: 8:45 am – 2:00 pm Location: South Metro TAFE – Rockingham TAFE Capacity: 30 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: South Metro TAFE This taster program will give students a great introduction into building and construction industry. This taster will see students getting their hands dirty in 3 different trade industries across, bricklaying, plastering/tiling and wall and ceiling. Students will be split into 3 groups of 10 students where they will complete a hands on activity in each industry before rotating to the next.
