Year 9 Career Taster Program – 2026 SessionsThe Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) provides students with the opportunity to explore different industries through short, hands‑on taster sessions delivered by local TAFEs and training providers. The program is designed to spark curiosity, broaden awareness of future career pathways, and support students in making informed subject choices for Years 10–12. Throughout the year, students will have access to a range of one‑day experiences, each showcasing real‑world skills, workplaces, and industry professionals. These sessions aim to help students discover their interests, build confidence, and connect classroom learning to practical career opportunities.- Bookings open at 5:00 pm on 6 February 2026. - Sessions are first‑come, first‑served. Spots are limited, so please book as soon as bookings open. - Students may book one place per session. - Sessions will auto‑close when full. - If a session is full, email rebecca.davidse@education.wa.edu.au to request a waitlist spot. - Students must read all session descriptions before booking. Some require students to arrange their own transport. - Students must ensure bookings do not clash with assessments or school commitments. CTP does not excuse missed work. - If you can no longer attend a booked session, you must notify Rebecca Davis as soon as possible so the spot can be offered to someone else. - Students are strongly encouraged to book for themselves so they understand what they are attending. - A Compass consent event will be sent to parents for each session; attendance requires parent approval. - Students who repeatedly book and do not attend will be placed on a “no‑show” list and may be prevented from joining future sessions. Welcome to a hands-on introduction to the world of audio and music production. Students will explore our professional recording studios, editing suites, radio stations, rehearsal rooms, and live venue, gaining insights into these various areas of the industry in the process. They’ll also discover the wide range of careers available in sound production and the live music industry, working with experienced industry professionals along the way. The session culminates in state-of-the-art recording studio time, where students can play and record their own music, sing over backing tracks, and operate studio equipment. Construction Futures Centre Date: Wednesday 25 February 2026 Time: 9:30 am (bus departs school) – 1:00 pm (bus arrives back at school) Capacity: 30 students Transport: School Bus from school Provider: CTF An interactive space that gives young people the opportunity to explore a wide variety of construction pathways. Building and construction is one of WA’s largest industries. The Construction Futures Centre is designed to educate and encourage students to learn about the diverse career options through an immersive experience. Our qualified team and venue are inspiring the next generation of construction workers with a range of exhibits. These learning experiences reveal the industry’s significance to the economic and social wellbeing of WA via practical activities, arcade-style games and virtual reality simulators. Fashion Business Taster - A Passion for Fashion – Bentley TAFE Date: Thursday 19 March 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 2:00 pm Location: South Metro TAFE – Bentley Campus Capacity: 20 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: South Metro TAFE Get creative with an introduction to business and fashion! This taster will introduce Year 9 students to the basics of fashion and merchandising, with a focus on preparing window displays, merchandising garments and preparing for fashion shows! Students will utilise recycled fabrics, paper and haberdashery to bring their retail shop window to life, finishing the day off with a photoshoot of their display. Hairdressing Taster - Let's get fabulous! – Murdoch TAFE Date: Thursday 19 March 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 2:00 pm Location: South Metro TAFE – Murdoch Campus Capacity: 16 students Transport: Students must make their own way Provider: South Metro TAFE Students will experience all things hair in South Metropolitan TAFE's new state of the art hair salon facilities. Get a behind-the-scenes look into the exciting world of hairdressing. In this hands-on taster, you’ll learn from a professional hair expert who will demonstrate a range of braiding techniques before you try them yourself. You’ll also get the chance to work with real salon tools including straighteners and curling wands to create fun, stylish up-dos and experiment with different looks. If you’re creative, love trends or enjoy helping others feel their best, this taster is the perfect introduction to the hairdressing industry. Costa mushroom farm tour Date: Wednesday 25 March 2026 Time: 9:30 am (bus departs school) – 1:00 pm (approx. bus arrives back at school) Capacity: 15 students Transport: Students will catch a bus from school at 9:30 (period 2) and return approx 1pm Take a tour of a mushroom farm with Costa. The mushroom tour details the entire mushroom growing processes from start (pre-harvest) to end (post-harvest and despatch). Students will be exposed to each department and process through the farm and will meet key staff members in each area. At the end of the tour, students will be given the opportunity to put together mushroom growing kits. Showbags are also given at the end of the tour, with information and promotional material. Animation 3D - Joondalup TAFE Date: Monday 30 March 2026 Time: 8:30 am (bus departs school) – 3:30 pm (approx. bus arrives back at school) Location: North Metro TAFE – Joondalup Campus Capacity: 14 students Transport: Students catch a bus from school leaving at 8:30 and arriving back at approximatley 3:30pm Provider: North Metro TAFE Model robots using industry software! Students will have the opportunity to model and texture a robot using real industry software. They will learn the fine art of animation, visual effects, and game art in the broader context of understanding the place of modelling in the screen and media industry. Students will explore and experiment with digital technologies, applying their creativity and technical skills to the activity. They will become comfortable with the use of advanced software and gain an understanding and appreciation of the role of technology in the creative industries. Hospitality - Sebel Hotel Mandurah Date: Monday 11 May 2026 Time: 9:30 am (bus departs school) – 1:00 pm (approx. bus arrives back at school) Capacity: 20 students (TBC) Transport: Students will catch a bus from school at 9:30 (period 2) and return approx 1pm Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sebel Mandurah! Meet the team, take a tour of the hotel and participate in an obstacle course - hospitality style! This experience at the Sebel in Mandurah is aimed at providing students with real life experience of what it would be like to work in a hotel, doing a variety of jobs. Legal and economic pathways - Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA Date: Tuesday 2 June 2026 Time: 9:30 am (bus departs school) – 1:00 pm (approx. bus arrives back at school) Capacity: 20 students Transport: Students catch a bus from school leaving at 9:30 and arriving back at approximatley 1:00pm Come into the Perth City and learn about the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia and hear about how to become a Lawyer and an Economist. Excursion includes a Business Tour - learn about all the different business units and check out what it is like to work in an office environment. Hear from our Lawyer and Economist on how to get a great job role. Then finally play a game to strengthen your understanding of the various occupations out there. |
