Navigating the Soul’s Storms: Wisdom from St Ignatius
Navigating the Soul’s Storms: Wisdom from St Ignatius of Loyola
Our spiritual lives are not always full of joy, peace and light. At times our souls can feel stormy or discouraged, as though God is absent, and we don’t feel attracted to spiritual things. We call this spiritual desolation. When it happens, we can wonder what’s gone wrong and not know what to do, and our spiritual life can spiral downwards. With proper guidance, though, times of desolation can be important occasions for spiritual growth. St Ignatius Loyola offers such guidance in his Rules for the Discernment of Spirits. This workshop will examine these practical guidelines for how to grow spiritually when experiencing desolation.
Leading our retreat is Fr Robin Koning SJ, a Jesuit priest working in young adult and vocations ministry. He gives retreats and seminars grounded in Ignatian spirituality. He is also a Fellow of The Loyola Institute, ACU, and Director, Australian Lonergan Centre.
