Introduction to Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate
Split over four sessions, Introduction to Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate is a practical course in which teachers will gain a greater understanding of the content of the Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabi. Encompassing syllabus settings, assessment criteria and teaching strategies, this course is for new and experienced teachers alike.
Teachers may register for individual or both levels.
Aims
- To provide a greater knowledge of the syllabus settings, assessment criteria and teaching strategies for the content of Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate levels.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the session, you will have an increased understanding of:
- Aims of the syllabi
- Learning outcomes and assessment criteria
- Choreographic content
- Guidelines on how to further develop techniques, artistry, musicality and creativity in students in relation to the content of the examination
- Teaching methods appropriate for the delivery of these syllabi
- Advice on preparation and procedures

Format
In-person practical workshops
Includes practical exercises and group activities in the studio with your tutor and fellow teachers.

Julie trained vocationally at The Dance School of Scotland and graduated from the Royal Ballet School Teachers’ Training Course. She has had a diverse career – performing, choreographing, teaching and creating resources for study in dance. She has 35 years’ experience in dance, dance training and education.
An Alumni of The Royal Ballet School, she is a Tutor for their Affiliate Training and Assessment Program internationally.
Selected by the RAD Creative Panel as an original Tutor of the new RAD syllabus, she conducts CPD courses for teachers throughout Australasia.
For the RAD Faculty of Education, she has 17 years’ experience in dance teacher training from certificate to post graduate level.
She piloted and guest lectured the elected RAD Access Route at Queensland University of Technology since its inception, for dance degree students within the Creative Industries.
Julie is regularly invited on Faculty for exam intensive workshops and summer schools working with dance students at recreational and vocational levels.
As an Adjudicator, Julie has judged national RAD awards and competitions.
She works at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, in her home city of Melbourne.
