Anti Racism Training
About
In 2022, Victoria University (VU) conducted community engagement and research in partnership with Whittlesea Community Connections to understand the experiences and support needs of residents who have faced racism. Building on this, VU led a state-wide research project (2022–2024), 'Understanding Reporting Barriers' and 'Support Needs of People Experiencing Racism', funded by VicHealth.Findings from both projects identified a strong community need for increased awareness of racism reporting pathways, improved accessibility to support services, and stronger community confidence in speaking out against racism.
Purpose
The City of Whittlesea has engaged Victoria University to develop and deliver a series of tailored Anti-Racism Training Workshops for council staff and key community organisation representatives.
Objectives
The workshops aim to:
Improve staff confidence in identifying and addressing racism
Increase awareness of local and state-wide reporting mechanisms
Strengthen referral pathways to culturally appropriate support services
Enhance organisational commitment to anti-racism and cultural inclusion
