Join us for this webinar with the wonderful Ebony Birch-Hanger, Neuro-Sensory Education Specialist, focused on identifying opportunities to minimise stress and support regulation
As an educator or therapist, during your career you will have been faced with behaviours that have frustrated, astonished, and baffled you. While we often turn to strategies aimed to re-direct, re-engage, or calm dysregulated children, we can be far more effective if we identify the aspects of the environment that are impacting them. By doing this first, we can directly support the sensory systems in need, which increases the success of further support strategies we may implement.
In this webinar you will:
- discover how our view of behaviours changes the way we respond to them
- find out why environmental evaluation and adjustments can be so powerful and give you ‘quick wins’ when faced with big behaviours
- understand the various ways in which a student’s environment can impact their sensory systems (and overall nervous system) and, in turn, their behaviour
- uncover the connection among all the sensory systems and how overwhelm in any one system will have a flow on effect which impacts regulation
- recognise the importance of supporting students’ sensory systems to result in more connected, regulated and engaged students
- learn to become a keen observer of the environment who can quickly identify aspects which may be contributing to students’ dysregulation
- acquire the skill of evaluating such aspects to determine how they are impacting your students
- leave with the knowledge you need to decide your next best step and adjust the environment to support the root cause of students’ dysregulation
About Ebony Birch-Hanger - Neuro-Sensory Education Specialist
Using a neuro-affirming approach, Ebony helps educators, therapists and parents who are struggling to understand the ‘why’ behind the behaviours of children with complex communication profiles; move from feeling inadequate and overwhelmed, to being able to interpret behaviours through a neuro-sensory lens, so they can respond with intention, clarity and compassion.
Ebony's approach shines a light on how the interactions between a child's brain, body, nervous system, and the environment impact their daily functioning and communication in each moment.
Ebony has worked across all ages and educational settings, including childcare, primary, secondary, TAFE and University; as an LSO, classroom teacher (mainstream and special ed.), specialist music teacher, education consultant, and university academic.
