Working with Eating Disorders in Pregnancy
About
About the Workshop:This workshop focuses on supporting practitioners to work confidently and safely with people experiencing eating disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It explores the complex biopsychosocial factors involved, including fertility considerations, the interaction between eating disorder type, weight and pregnancy-related risks, and the specific assessment and screening needs in this population. Participants will develop practical skills in risk management, multidisciplinary collaboration and adapting evidence-based treatment approaches to meet perinatal needs. The workshop also addresses the transition into the postpartum period and equips clinicians to respond to evolving clinical presentations. Through this workshop, participants will strengthen their capacity to assess, manage risk, and provide collaborative, person-centred care for individuals navigating eating disorders in the context of pregnancy and early parenthood.
Presenter: Sarah McMahon, director of BodyMatters Australasia and psychologist.
