About
Vinay is a direct disciple of the world-renowned Santoor Maestro Padma Vibhushan Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. In 2011, under Panditji’s guidance, Vinay commenced intensive training with Takahiro Arai and Kunal Gunjal, before being formally accepted as Pandit Shivkumar Sharma’s student.Since then, Vinay has performed extensively across the USA (including Hawaii), Argentina, Canada, The Bahamas, Australia, and India, appearing at prominent festivals and for some of the world’s most respected cultural organisations. Renowned for his meditative yet dynamic musical expression, Vinay’s performances reflect a deep devotion to the purity, depth, and lyrical beauty of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma’s distinctive santoor style. Alongside his concert career, Vinay continues his Guru’s legacy through teaching and lecturing internationally.
He will be accompanied on tabla by Kush Sami, a versatile and accomplished exponent of Hindustani rhythm, who studied directly under the late legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain. Notably, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma shared a rare and profound musical bond, performing together frequently and creating performances celebrated for their almost divine rhythmic and melodic synergy—an artistic lineage that this concert proudly honours.
The evening will open with Infusion World Music, a well-regarded local ensemble presenting a thoughtfully curated set of semi-classical, world fusion, and ghazals, setting the mood before handing the stage over for the main Santoor recital. Infusion is a contemporary world fusion band with members from all around the world. Infusion is about creating a modern, fresh, energetic and young sound for all.
