The Sacred Self : Self as Icon
About
During this one-day workshop, Melbourne artist Christine Sage and Adelaide spiritual director Val DeBrenni explore the Christian teaching that we are made in the image of God (Imago Dei). This theological concept is increasingly framed through the metaphor of the self as icon, distinguishing it from the self as idol. We each have our own story, our own way of living into this mystery, but often we struggle to accept, acknowledge and respond to it.Using the traditional motif of iconography, we will use a simple template to represent our own symbols, metaphors and analogous imagery to explore the sacred within.
Please note that it is not necessary to have particular artistic talent to engage in this day but rather an openness and a willingness to engage in reflection.
Art materials will be provided including pencils, fine liners, brushes, paints and glue sticks, but you may bring your own materials if you wish. Bring (optional) photo of self, images/ objects /symbols of self.
This day is suitable for all adults.
It is also approved by CESA as a System Accredited Module for teachers, requiring the submission of a 1500 word reflection paper.
