Experimental Drawing with Elaine Camlin
About
Join Elaine in this two-day workshop, artists are invited to loosen their approach to drawing and explore mark-making as an intuitive, responsive process rather than a finished outcome. The focus is on curiosity, experimentation, and allowing marks to emerge without overthinking or control.
Participants will begin with watercolour, using simple experimental techniques to build layers of colour, texture, and tone.
These initial washes and marks act as a starting point rather than a plan, creating surfaces that invite response. From there, Elaine will guide participants in working back into these pages using pencil, charcoal, pastel, and ink, responding to what is already present on the paper.
Throughout the workshop, emphasis is placed on observation, sensitivity to marks, and developing confidence in personal visual language.
Elaine will offer gentle prompts and demonstrations to help participants recognise when to add, soften, emphasise, or leave a mark alone.
The process supports risk-taking in a safe, encouraging environment and helps artists move beyond habits or expectations.
This workshop is suited to artists who want to refresh their drawing practice, develop expressive confidence, or reconnect with a more playful and intuitive way of working.
