We proudly take to you back to the beginning of the 20th century, to the city of London, and the players of the Music Hall Royale!Within this garish parish, you might find a pint in your hand, a lady in your lap, or a spot of laughter when you’re feeling blue. In any case, it is an excuse to put your feet up, let your braces down, and have a jaunty stroll on down to the music hall, best described as equal parts pantomime, cabaret, vaudeville, and children’s birthday party!
LIVE From The Music Hall Royale: A Sing-A-Long Extravaganza is an interactive, audience involved reviving of the Music Hall traditions on which modern theatre is built, containing a large amount of classic music hall repertoire, from well-known standards such as “Waiting At The Church,” “I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside,” and “Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-De-Ay” to lesser-known gems such as “She Went Into The Water,” “Who Were You With Last Night?” and “The Night the Gorgonzola Cheese Went Wrong!”
Overseen by the esteemed Chairman of the Music Hall Royale, Dr Charles Cunningworth, and his vibrant and energetic group of players, you will be taught the lyrics as the show rolls on, and occasionally be brought on stage to contribute, in this high energy, audience integrated, sing-a-long spectacular.
And in the grand traditions of the music hall, where no one knows what is going to happen next, the direction and performances of the show are left both to chance and the members of the audience, with songs that are randomly selected, and a variety of performers prepared to step in and perform each and every one of them, subject to the whims of the assembled masses. An expert balancing act between family friendly and raunchy, this is a loving tribute to the origins of modern theatre, structured as a big Music Hall party! With, of course, the audience singing along (not optional), dancing along (slightly optional), and having the time of their lives (hyperbole, but likely).
But wait, there’s more! For this is more than just a bunch of songs strung together. That would not be a spectacle worthy of the grand Music Hall Royale, oh no! This show contains dramatic interludes, in the form of a two-part murder mystery, “The Murder at Bannerman Hall,” presented by the players of the Music Hall Royale (plus special guests…), for your entertainment, shock, and delight!
