Bootcamp - First Session ('Who - or what - is God?')
About
This is the introductory presentation for our 2026 Bootcamp program. Attendance will give you a chance to see if the rest of the course is for you.Bootcamp is designed for those seeking baptism, confirmation, or a stronger foundational understanding of the Christian life. Ancient Christians took seriously the process of ‘catechesis’ – detailed instruction on the basics of Christian belief, prayer and living. St John’s is continuing this tradition, helping enquirers establish a strong foundation in the essentials of the faith as it has been believed and lived for two thousand years.
For those who continue, we will be meeting over about 13 Thursday nights between April and September. You will receive in-depth teaching, with space for questions and discussion. Topics include:
• Who (or what) is God?
• How do I read the Bible?
• How do I pray?
• What are the sacraments?
• What do the 10 Commandments mean today?
• What does the Bible teach about marriage, sex and relationships?
For whose joining the full program, there is a small amount of set reading. For those seeking baptism or confirmation, other expectations will be outlined.
Following sessions occur on 7 May (Conversion: What is a Christian? ) and 21 May (Creeds: Who can I trust?)
