Songs of war and anguish
About
American musicians, Kevin Hanrahan (tenor), University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Hyun Kim (piano), University of Oklahoma, present a recital of songs of war and anguish by English composers John Ireland and Ivor Gurney and Australian Diana Blom. The anguish of World War I is heard in the words of Christina Rosetti, Frederick William Harvey among others, plus stories told by Australian and Turkish soldiers from the Gallipoli campaign. And the voices of fiction’s Sydney Carton, Frederick Wentworth and Katherina Minola, plus real-life Australian Elizabeth Macquarie, are set as famous last words.Date
