About
Being an educator today means going far beyond literacy and numeracy. Educators have become the social workers of society! This PD day will go into how we can build a school culture that flourish even in the face of stress and trauma. Educators are increasingly experiencing Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) through the emotional demands of supporting students, colleagues, and families affected by trauma.
In partnership with Deakin University, Dr Adam Fraser has completed one of the world’s largest studies on STS in education, with 2,300+ participants and 107 interviews.
Key findings include:
- 75% of educators sit in the medium or high category for STS
- Educators STS levels are: 34% higher than Paramedics + 21% higher than Psychologists
- STS increases burnout, chronic worry, and mental health risk
- 37% of staff are considering leaving the profession due to STS
This full-day workshop will share the latest research and provide practical strategies for individuals, leaders, and schools on how to manage STS, including:
- How to recognise and reduce STS in others and yourself
- Effecitvely supporting staff and students in distress
- Building connection and resilience across the school community
- Strategies that protect wellbeing while sustaining high performance
- Specific systems and processes that reduce the exposure
- and impact to STS
You will walk away with actionable tools to strengthen your wellbeing and help your school culture flourish.
