IFTAR FUNDRAISER FOR FAMILIES IN GAZA (Naarm/Melbourne)
About
In this Holy Month of Ramadan, join the Palestinian community in Naarm (Melbourne), Muslims from across the ummah, and all those in solidarity for an Iftar dinner fundraiser for families in Gaza, Palestine. The event will be held on Saturday 7 March 2026 at 7:30 pm at Schoolhouse Studios in Coburg, on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung country.WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE EVENING:
- Iftar dinner at sunset, with all food cooked by members of the community. All food will be halal, and expect in particular lots of Palestinian cuisine! There will be a range of meat, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options
- Knafeh dessert provided by @KnafehNabulseyeh (additional cost, all proceeds going to Gaza)
- Tea and coffee
- Maghrib prayer
- Children's activities including colouring and drawing available
- An auction on the evening (artworks, paintings, tatreez, photography, jewellery, Arabic lessons, music lessons, speciality experiences), with all proceeds going to families in Gaza.
COST:
The cost of a ticket will be a minimum spend of $25, but we strongly encourage people to pay more for a ticket if they are able. If you are unable to attend the event, but would still like to make a donation, please do so at PAYID: +61 451 059 306, or BSB: 062948
Account number: 32062120, with the transaction reference "SCHOOLHOUSE IFTAR".
If you buy a ticket and are no longer able to attend the event, please let us know, so we can redistribute your seat. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please contact us at iftar4gaza@proton.me if you are unable to afford the cost of a ticket but would still like to attend.
In the spirit of sovereignty and self-determination, all money from ticket sales and from the art auction on the evening will go as cash distributions towards families across Gaza for their needs as determined by them. The exact number of families we can support will depend on how much money is raised, so please spread the word!
We will in particular prioritise families displaced in tents, and those most in need in the community. All families will be kept anonymous and their dignity respected. We will not be posting any exploitative videos of families and their children receiving our donations. We will however aim for full accountability, transparency, and trust to our community around funds: we are a team of volunteers, and 100% of funds raised will go to Gazans. Any questions or concerns about funds transparency, email us.
Muslims and non-Muslims alike are warmly encouraged to attend. We do not, however, welcome any Z10n1sts into our spaces.

WANT TO VOLUNTEER WITH US?
Many hands go into ensuring these events run as smoothly as possible. Please contact us if you would like to assist with the event, whether it is volunteers to help with setting up the space, packing up on the evening (while Muslims in the community head off to tarawih prayers), by preparing a plate of food (must be halal), or donating an item for the auction.

A reminder that this event takes place on stolen Wurundjeri land. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
Let us remember the shared struggle against imperial and settler colonial violence. Let us use this Ramadan for community coming together in reflection, grief, struggle, solidarity, sacrifice, and surrender.
We look forward to welcoming you!
