Talking about Risk in Nature Immersion Settings
About
Risk is part of nature immersion, growth and learning. And yet, it can also be the place where educators feel most vulnerable in conversations with families, schools, councils, colleagues, and even within ourselves. This online event is an opportunity to come together as an AFSA community to explore how we talk about risk in our settings from a place of grounded practice, professional judgement, and shared wisdom. Together we will explore:
- What a positive risk–benefit culture looks and feels like
- Language that supports balanced, confident conversations
- How we communicate challenge and safety with families and stakeholders
- Strengthening educator confidence and professional identity
We invite members to come ready to share examples, language you use, questions you sit with, and stories from your own settings. Please feel free to contact us in advance if you'd like to share, contribute or pose a question.
This will be a collaborative conversation: grounded, practical, and supportive. This is not a session about insurance or legal advice. It is about practice. It is about culture. It is about how we hold risk in ways that honour children’s capability and our responsibility as mentors.
