What is Safe Church Training?Most volunteers, and all staff and leaders at Community Life UC (including Op Shop and Chatz) in line with the Synod’s Safe Church Policy are required to regularly complete Safe Church training modules, along with a new 1-hour External Training component. We are pleased to offer you a local training opportunity at our church.
This year we welcome guest presenters Rev Beth Nicholls, who will lead the Safe Church modules, and Rev John Cox, who will present our External Training workshop for this year: “Dealing with Heavy Conversations and Looking After Yourself.” This topic has been identified amongst our volunteers and John brings a wealth of experience to share in community and church contexts. The afternoon aims to be both valuable and practical, and it’s great opportunity to complete all your training early in the year!
Who needs to attend?
From 2025, Safe Church requirements now include virtually all volunteers, plus staff and leaders aged 18 and over, not only those working with children, as we operate under the principle of shared guardianship. A small number of volunteer roles are exempt, as well as those who currently work professionally under child protection legislation may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL). To apply for RPL or you’re unsure of your requirements, please check with Rev Emma, or your managing staff member.
Training Session Times (please advise which you’ll attend)
• Refresher (“Foundations”)
For those who completed Safe Church training last year
Arrive 1:00pm – Finish 3:15pm
(Refresher required every year)
• Basic (“Introduction”)
For those who have never completed Safe Church training before, or who did theirs 2 years or more ago.
Arrive 2:00pm – Finish 4:15pm
(both sessions include 1 hour External Training with John Cox, which will run from 2pm-3:15pm)
Training will be held at Community Life Uniting Church, 528 Waterford Road Ellen Grove, in Leichhardt Building (Church).
