Drawing Intensive with Fran O'Neill
Accomplished artist and teacher Fran O'Neill lives and works between Australia and Brooklyn, New York where she has taught at the New York Studio School (NYSS) for 20 years. The philosophy and approach of the NYSS acknowledges the important role that drawing can play in supporting a creative practice - because of its focus on observation and perception.
This 3-day intensive operates on the assumption that drawing is a direct examination of (and possible challenge to) our perceptions and experience of the world and, as such, transformative to an art practice. Participants will work from observation, primarily using charcoal on paper, with a focus on object(s) in space. The scale of the work will range from moderate to large examining the interaction of the picture plane, along with strategies to explore further pictorial elements of drawing. Work will be regularly reviewed both individually, though mainly via group critiques.
Please note, this is a very directed course, and may challenge existing ideas of what drawing can be : ) All levels are welcome.
Cost: $690 excluding materials
Materials required include charcoal, paper, pencils, erasers, sketchbook (full list provided on booking)
