Understanding Social Communication Through a Neurodiversity
About
Presented by Lauren ConstantineThe session will explore an introduction to social communication, its underlying cognitive processes and component skills that are needed to engage in 'social behaviours' and some background info about the history of supporting students with social communication differences. The main focus will be on exploring the term 'neurodiversity affirming practices', what this means, what mindsets it entails and how we can implement it in a clinic setting. We will touch on some key knowledge areas that help us be more NDA (e.g. sensory processing) in our clinical practice. We will look at assessment, intervention and advocacy for neurodivergent students. We will also explore how we work with neurodivergent students in our other clinical goals (e.g. in literacy intervention).
