Creative Arts Approaches for Trauma: Expanding the Toolkit
About
This workshop is designed for practitioners who already have some experience working in trauma-informed contexts. Suitable for both newer and experienced workers across counselling, casework, intake, group work, and supervision.Q and A about the workshop Creative Arts Approaches for Trauma: Expanding the Toolkit:
I attended the previous workshop - how is this one different?
We heard the call for more, and this is the next step. While both workshops sit under ‘Creative Arts Approaches for Trauma’, Expanding the Toolkit introduces an entirely new set of exercises with a stronger focus on group work, while still supporting application in individual settings.

Will I be learning Art Therapy?
This is not formal art therapy training. Rather, it is an introductory workshop designed to support you in bringing expressive and creative approaches into your existing practice. The focus is on practical, accessible tools that can be integrated into your current role.

Do I have to take part in the activities?
Participation is always by choice. We place a strong emphasis on consent and personal agency throughout the workshop. You are invited to engage at a pace that feels right for you, with no pressure to participate in any activity that does not feel comfortable.

What does an “experiential workshop” involve?
This is a hands-on learning experience. We invite you to try the exercises yourself, so you can develop a felt sense of how they work before introducing them to clients. This happens within a supported, professional environment.
There is no expectation to share personal stories or go beyond your own boundaries. Rather, the intention is to deepen your understanding through direct experience. This creates a stronger foundation for applying the work with confidence, care, and attunement.

How does the workshop support different learning and access needs?
People learn in different ways, and this workshop is designed with that in mind.
Across the day, we incorporate a mix of:
• Structured teaching (slides and frameworks)
• Reflective discussion
• Individual, paired, and group-based activities
The day is primarily seated at tables and chairs. You are welcome to bring anything that supports your comfort and focus - fidget items, snacks, cushions, or other aids. You are encouraged to move, stretch, or take breaks as needed. Comfort in the space matters.
The venue (Windsor Community Centre) is wheelchair accessible, including entry and bathroom facilities. There is also space available to step away from the group or spend time outside if needed.
If there is anything specific that would support your access or participation, we warmly invite you to let us know ahead of time so we can work with you to accommodate this where possible.

I’m not creative or artistic — will this be a problem?
Not at all. This work is not about artistic skill or producing visual art. It is about process, curiosity, and connection. Creativity is something we all hold - this workshop helps you access it in your work.
