Balmoral Lecture Series with Professor Ann Brewer

Balmoral Lecture Series with Professor Ann Brewer

About

Character at the Centre

Queenwood is proud to open the 2026 Balmoral Lecture Series with Professor Ann Brewer, an accomplished academic leader and internationally recognised scholar in education, leadership and organisational behaviour.
At Queenwood, character education is not an aspiration; it is central to who we are. Professor Brewer will explore how character is formed through habits, choices and practice, drawing on insights from Aristotle to contemporary neuroscience. Her message is clear: flourishing is not accidental; it is cultivated intentionally. She will explore the following themes:

a) Why character formation is essential to wellbeing and lifelong success;
b) The importance of virtue literacy in modern education;
c) How learning to disagree respectfully strengthens both individuals and society, and
d) The powerful role schools play in shaping not only students, but the communities they will one day lead.

At a time when public life continually highlights the importance of courage, integrity and service, this lecture invites the Queenwood community to reflect deeply on the values that guide us and the character we seek to develop in every girl.

Students will leave with a renewed understanding that character can be formed, practised and strengthened; and that it matters profoundly.
