At the Senior School Workshop Evening, you’ll be introduced to the Year Level teams and gain a deeper understanding of the Senior School years, before attending information sessions that provide further detail and opportunities to ask questions.

This event will commence in the Mary Maloney Theatre before moving to the Vivian Dwyer Senior Centre for the workshop sessions.

Workshop Summaries - each session is approximately 30 mins in length

1. VCE and VCE-VM 
This workshop will examine the differences and similarities between the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Education - Vocational Major (VCE-VM), as pathways for Senior Students at Sacred Heart College. 

2. What is Study Score & ATAR
This workshop explores VCE Study Scores and how they are calculated from School Assessed Coursework (SACs), Graded Assessments (GA), School Assessed Tasks (SATs), and Examinations. We will also cover the process of scaling Study Scores, the calculation of the Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank (ATAR), and the various associated acronyms.

3. VCAA Provisions
This workshop addresses the underlying principle of the VCAA Special Provision Policy, that is, to ensure that the most appropriate, fair and reasonable options are available for students to demonstrate their capabilities if their learning and assessment programs are affected by disability, illness, impairment or other circumstances.  General application requirements and timelines will also be provided.

4. VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training delivered in Secondary Schools)
Vocational Education and Training (VET) ensures skills development in a wide range of occupational fields, through school-based and work-based learning. VET enables students to gain qualifications for all types of employment, and to develop specific skills to help them in the workplace. The workshop will look at VET included as part of a senior school pathway - Years 10 to 12 - VCE and VCE VM programs and explain how VET can contribute to a student’s senior school certificate. The workshop will also include information about School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT) and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).

5. How to Succeed in Senior School
In this workshop we will discuss the various ways in which families can support and work with their students to experience success in their Senior School years. We will look at the importance of routine, a balanced lifestyle, the sources of support available to our students, the importance of sleep, and the benefits of encouraging our students to take advantage of the many opportunities available at the College. 

6.Types of VCE Assessments: Assessment Tasks, SACs, Portfolio Subjects and SAT’s  (Art, Media, Visual Communication & Design and Product Design & Technology) 
In this workshop we will look at the various types of VCE assessments across Year 11 and 12 to help you understand the various tasks that your students will encounter at Year 11 and 12. We will explore the difference between Year 11 and 12 Assessment Tasks, understand the meaning of satisfactory and not satisfactory results and what these mean to the awarding of the VCE. In a specific Year 12 subject focus we will discuss VCAA internal assessment including School Assessed Coursework (SACS) and School Assessed Tasks (SATS), and explore external VCAA assessment such as the GAT and end of year examinations. 

7. Welcome to Senior School 
Join us for our overview of Senior School Workshop, where we’ll provide valuable insights into the exciting opportunities available as your young person progresses into the senior years of high school. Learn more about what the year ahead looks like, subject selection, the Year 10 Certificate, Year 11 Presentation Ball, studying the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Education-Vocational Major (VCE-VM) and pathways to further education and career options. 

8. Careers @ SHC
This workshop is about building positive career partnerships in order to support your young person through transition. Including how to have career conversations, understanding a guidance interview and gaining knowledge on the many resources available for life beyond school. Including how to have career conversations, understanding a guidance interview, the senior school careers program and gaining knowledge on the many resources available.
