《Wandering in a Garden, Waking from a Dream》 is a stage adaptation of the beloved literary work by Taiwanese writer Pai Hsien-yung (Bai Xianyong). Set during an elegant evening gathering, the play gently unfolds a world of memories, music, and quiet emotions, where the past seems to linger in every corner.
The story follows a group of Kunqu opera performers who journeyed from mainland China to Taiwan. As they reunite, their lives, friendships, and artistic passions come into focus, revealing joys, regrets, and the bittersweet beauty of time gone by.
Presented in a staged script-reading format, the performance brings the story to life through voice, gesture, and interaction, enhanced by carefully designed stage backgrounds, lighting, and sound. The delicate rhythm and poetic essence of traditional Kunqu merge seamlessly with modern theatre, creating a space where literature, music, and drama intertwine.
