Resilience - Dr Justin Coulson
About
At McKinnon Secondary College, resilience is one of our core values and sits at the heart of our Wellbeing Framework. We believe wellbeing grows from strong relationships and the development of character, particularly during adolescence, when young people are shaping their identity, confidence and sense of self.We are pleased to invite parents and carers to an evening with Dr Justin Coulson, one of Australia’s leading parenting experts, holds a PhD in psychology and co-host of Channel Nine’s Parental Guidance, focused on how adults can intentionally build resilience in young people. In this presentation, Dr Coulson challenges the idea that childhood should be free from stress or struggle. Instead, he highlights how developmentally appropriate challenges, supported by steady and connected adults, are essential for growth.
Drawing on research and practical experience, Dr Coulson will explore what resilience truly means, why it matters in today’s screen-focused world, and how parents can help their child develop identity, competence and hope.
This session will offer practical, grounded insights to support parents in raising young people who are not simply able to cope with life’s inevitable setbacks, but to grow stronger because of them.
