Between Earth and Sky
About
Between Earth and Sky:Dancing CI in Nature with Alice Robinson.
In this class, we will take Contact Improvisation out of the studio and into the environment. Working with weight-sharing, momentum, listening, and responding, we will explore dance as a playful exchange between ourselves, each other, and the landscape.
We’ll spend time tuning into sensation: feeling the texture of the ground, the temperature of the air, the pull of gravity, and the sounds and movement around us. This sensory awareness supports presence and invites playful exploration and response. From a place of listening and attunement, we will allow the environment to inform our balance, timing, and movement.
Guided explorations support this process and gradually open into freer dancing, where play, CI principles, and environmental responsiveness come together in an improvisational experience that feels grounded, curious, and alive.
Alice Robinson has been practising Contact Improvisation for nearly 20 years. She is a long-standing member of the Melbourne Contact Community and is now part of the Surf Coast CI community.
Alice’s movement practice is shaped by her experience as a Play Therapist and by her exploration of movement in the natural environment. Her work is informed by Body-Mind Centering (BMC), Body Weather, and creative arts therapy. Alice has developed a strong interest in how our sensory experiences and embodiment influence our experience of ourselves, others, and our surroundings. She brings a clear, embodied, and sensory approach, inviting dancers into curiosity, presence, and expression.
