2026 ABODA-NAT Australian National Composition Competition
About
The ABODA National Board is pleased to announce the commencement of the Australian National Composition Competition (ANCC) for the year 2026. This prestigious event aims to foster the creation of significant new works for wind band and string orchestra composed by Australian composers.Competition Categories:
* Wind Band Compositions (Grade Level 3-4)
* String Orchestra Compositions (Grade Level 1.5-2.5)
Prizes:
* Wind Band Composition: $4,000
* String Orchestra Composition: $2,500
World Premiere Performance:
Selected compositions will be granted a world premiere performance at ANBOC 2026 in Sydney, scheduled for 2-5 October 2026. Composers will also receive a recording of the premier of the piece.
Eligibility:
To participate, applicants must be:
* Australian Citizens
* Currently residing in Australia
Submission Criteria:
* Original compositions, never before performed or published
* Maximum duration: 10 minutes
* Specific instrumentation outlined in the provided guidelines
Application Guidelines:
* Entries due by 31 July 2026
* Winners announced on 14 August 2026
* Submissions to be emailed to secretary@abodanational.com.au and c.c. abodanational@gmail.com

* Optional: Program or conductor's notes
Adjudication Process:
All composer details will be removed for adjudication, ensuring a blind evaluation. Only the committee chairperson will have knowledge of the composer information, and they will not be part of the adjudication panel.
