Mrs Elva Allan began teaching the violin and viola at Camberwell Grammar School in 1968 and worked here until 1988. Beginning with a small number of students, she oversaw the introduction of classes that became the foundation of the string program and subsequent orchestras, of which we are extremely proud.
Following her passing in 1990, the CGS Friends of Music established the String Award in her name and each year a memorial concert is performed in her honour, featuring our Music Scholars.
Join us for an evening of stellar performances and exceptional musicianship. The program will include:
- Internationally acclaimed violinist and Artistic Director Rachael Beesley directs the Elva Allan Memorial Chamber Orchestra.
- The Finale of the dazzlingly energetic Korngold Piano Quintet
- Rachmaninov's sumptuous Suite no.2 for two pianos
- Rimsky Korsakov Trombone Concerto with its magical blend of Russian romanticism and the spirited, bright tone of a military band.
Following the Concert, audience members are invited to Supper in the Wilson Room (upstairs from the Middleton Theatre).
