Calling Secondary School Staff - Responding to Disclosures
About
[ONLINE EVENT]Did you know that 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 6 men experienced sexual abuse by an adult before the age of 15 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2022), and that 1 in 5 Australians aged 16 to 24 experienced child sexual abuse by another adolescent (Australian Child Maltreatment Study, 2023)? Findings from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse indicated that victim-survivors were more likely to disclose to someone they had a trusting relationship with and that children might not disclose sexual abuse if they feel there is no one they can tell. On average, it took victim-survivors of child sexual abuse almost 24 years to disclose the abuse to anyone.
How we respond to disclosures of sexual assault is critical – the first conversation can be the difference between silence and safety for a young person.
The Western Region Centre Against Sexual Assault would like to invite you to participate in a unique bespoke training designed for secondary school educational staff / wellbeing coordinators to empower you to better support your students by learning to Respond to Disclosures of Sexual Assault.
WestCASA’s Community Education program has had a profound and measurable impact on the communities we serve in the western metropolitan region of Melbourne.
One of the most significant impacts of our Community Education program has been its ability to raise awareness and shift attitudes around sexual violence. The training aims to boost confidence, help you to build trust, maintain boundaries, and respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault.
