Self-Propelling Commodes for Lower-Limb Amputation Care

Unicare Health Seminar : Defining Pressure Care Excellence

WEBINAR

This online training explores how clinicians can effectively prescribe and customise self-propelling commodes for individuals with lower-limb amputation. Participants will learn how to assess amputee-specific needs, customise commodes to match functional abilities and personal goals, and consider environmental factors to ensure safe, independent, and effective use.

Through clinical examples and practical guidance, this session will help clinicians strengthen their confidence in selecting and customising commodes that support comfort, safety and independence across a range of care settings.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the care needs of individuals with lower-limb amputation, including pressure care requirements, postural support, upper-limb function and sitting stability.
  • Apply person-centred clinical reasoning to prescribe and customise a self-propelling commode aligned with an individual’s functional abilities, daily routines and personal goals.
  • Identify environmental and contextual risk factors that impact safe, effective and independent commode use across home and care environments.

This session is ideal for Occupational Therapists, Senior Occupational Therapists, and other healthcare professionals who want to strengthen their skills and confidence in prescribing and customising self-propelling commodes to support safe, effective and independent use.
