Do you want to be a more effective research writer? Join the HDR Communication Advisers and SOAR team in a supportive, interactive learning community focused on writing for research. Set across five practical workshops that are all held online, you’ll explore: how to approach the pre-writing stage, learn with peers, useful strategies for drafting, refining and working productively with feedback. This series is designed to build your confidence and strengthen the research writing skills you need for a successful research journey. SESSIONS
- SESSION 1 (May 28, 2026): Pre-writing strategies. This session focuses on, for example: how to get ready to write, do you need more than one draft, what to do when you get stuck.
- SESSION 2 (June 4, 2026): Editing your own work. This session discusses, for instance: ways to review your writing effectively, thinking from the reader’s point-of-view, your motivation.
- SESSION 3 (June 11, 2026): Receiving feedback. This session addresses topics such as: why it can be hard to receive feedback, why supervisors don’t always agree, receiving feedback as a learning opportunity.
- SESSION 4 (June 18, 2026): Providing feedback. This session explores information including: why giving feedback is a learning opportunity, how teamwork includes giving feedback, do you need to be a good writer first?
- SESSION 5 (June 25, 2026): Using generative AI tools for feedback about your writing. This session examines, for example: can you use generative AI for proofreading? Do you need permission from others? How much use is too much?
