Donna Cross - Anti-bullying Review and Framework
About
Australian schools now face a much more consistent, accountable and time bound set of expectations for preventing and responding to bullying. The NSW Anti Bullying Framework and the Federal Anti Bullying Rapid Review complement each other with one setting statewide operational requirements, and the other setting national standards and system level expectations. The combined effect of the NSW Framework and the Federal Rapid Review is a system-level shift toward consistent, timely, trauma informed, data driven whole-school policy and practice. School psychologists, counsellors and guidance officers are uniquely positioned to anchor this shift through their clinical expertise, systems thinking and relational skill that is needed to translate policy into safe, effective daily practice.
This presentation will explore how school psychologists, counsellors and guidance officers could integrate these frameworks into everyday whole-school practice focussing on prevention, strengthening early intervention, ensuring responses to bullying behaviour are timely, and trauma informed, while working alongside families and building staff capacity. It will also consider their role in triage, safety planning and accurate documentation to ensure that reducing harm from bullying becomes a sustained, whole school commitment rather than a compliance exercise.
