CBT-AN-20: A New Brief CBT for Anorexia Nervosa (BMI ≥ 15)
About
This training is a rare opportunity to receive in-person training in Perth in a new treatment protocol for Anorexia Nervosa — CBT-AN-20 — delivered by its developers, Glenn Waller (UK) and Tracey Wade (Australia).Following the development of an effective, brief CBT for non-underweight patients with eating disorders (CBT-T; Waller et al., 2019), the same principles have been used to develop a 20-session CBT for Anorexia Nerovsa (BMI = 15+).
CBT-AN-20 retains the core evidence-based principles of CBT for eating disorders, including:
- Individualisation of treatment
- A focus on early behavioural change
- Use of inhibitory learning principles
- Addressing emotional drivers of the disorder
- Case-specific body image interventions
The protocol also introduces enhanced elements specific to anorexia nervosa, including:
- Motivational work
- Working with the anorexic voice
- Weight regain strategies
Early evidence suggests that CBT-AN-20 is well accepted by patients and produces outcomes comparable to 40-session CBT-E, while offering a more time-efficient treatment model.
This workshop will outline the CBT-AN-20 protocol and the skills and meta-competences needed to deliver the intervention effectively. Importantly, the training highlights how many of the core skills overlap with CBT used for other disorders, particularly anxiety-based conditions.
The workshop will include:
- Demonstrations and role-plays illustrating key therapeutic skills
- Guidance on implementing CBT-AN-20 in clinical practice
- Access to online resources and skills videos
- Opportunities to discuss attendees’ own clinical cases
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn directly from international experts about the latest developments in CBT approaches for anorexia nervosa.
