Jacob Lawrence & Ensemble 642 - Between Earth and Sky
Jacob Lawrence, tenor
Ensemble 642: Hannah Lane, Italian Baroque triple harp & Nicholas Pollock, theorbo
Between Earth and Sky: the shared sensual language of secular and sacred music in early Baroque Italy.
In this program, Jacob Lawrence and Ensemble 642 craft an aural landscape of early Baroque Italy in which the boundaries between sacred and secular are deliberately blurred. Secular music harnesses strict formal structures to stage moments of intense emotional release, while sacred works embrace a rich sensuality of sound and text, moving the listener with an immediacy equal to, and sometimes surpassing, that of the secular.
“Rarely performed early Italian Baroque works beautifully interpreted by early-music specialists of rare talent. ★★★★½” — Limelight
