Young Entrepreneur Course (4 weeks)
About
If you know a young entrepreneur who wants to start their own business, this is the course to help them to get their business off the ground! They will learn business basics and get expert advice and tips along the way as well as the chance to get their business showcased in The Shop of Little Shops.This course runs over 4 consecutive Sunday afternoons, with the first two in the school holidays. Each class is 60 minutes, with no business experience necessary, just an entrepreneurial spirit and a thirst to learn about small business. We recommend it for kids & teens 10 years+, but we are open to younger enthusiastic business brains as well. It helps to have a general business idea in mind, but we will be brainstorming ideas in the first class, so an exact business idea isn’t necessary to get started.
Topics covered:
Week 1 - What business suits you? Brainstorming business ideas. Identifying your skills, strengths & interests. What makes a good business?
Week 2 - How will you get the word out about your business? Brainstorming business names & logo ideas. Who is likely to buy your products and how will you get them to see them?
Week 3 - How much will you charge for your products/services? Calculating start-up costs. Figuring out product costs, pricing and profit. What will you do with profits?
Week 4 - Preparing to launch at The Shop of Little Shops. How will you display your items? How will you stand out?

A parent - depending on age and confidence, parents can attend with their children or stay nearby browsing in the shop or grabbing a coffee or something to eat at Daisy’s Donuts.

About me: Hi, I'm Tara! Owner of The Shop of Little Shops and small business enthusiast. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak and creative flair, even in primary school I wanted to put together craft kits to sell. My first business was in early high school, when I started making tote bags & cushions out of coloured teddy bear fur. I ran out of stock at the school fete and was sewing orders for weeks after! I’ve been running some sort of business ever since. I started my current sewing business, Little Field Handmade, over 10 years ago and opened The Shop of Little Shops in May 2024, where I get to support over 120 different small businesses at any time. I am passionate about small business, creativity, colour and self-expression and love helping the next generation find their creative spark.
Please note: This is our first time running this course. The price is likely to increase for future rounds as we refine the structure.
